Rohit Sharma was born on April 30, 1987, in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and was raised largely in Borivali, Mumbai, in modest financial circumstances. His family could not initially afford the fees for a proper cricket academy, but coach Dinesh Lad recognised his talent and helped arrange his admission to Swami Vivekanand International School in Borivali on a scholarship basis so he could train properly. Rohit married Ritika Sajdeh, his long-time partner and a former sports management professional, in December 2015. The couple have two children: a daughter, Samaira, born in December 2018, and a son, Ahaan, born in November 2024.

Rohit made his international debut for India in 2007 and was part of the squad that won the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup that same year, followed by a place in India’s 2011 ODI World Cup-winning squad. His career changed direction in 2013 when then-captain M.S. Dhoni promoted him to open the batting in ODIs, a move that unlocked a run-scoring streak few batters in the format’s history have matched. Rohit went on to score three ODI double centuries — a feat no other player has achieved even once more than twice — including an innings of 264 against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in November 2014, still the highest individual score in ODI history.

As captain of Mumbai Indians in the IPL, Rohit led the franchise to five title wins (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020), making him the most successful captain in the tournament’s history; he handed over the MI captaincy to Hardik Pandya ahead of the 2024 season but has continued to play for the franchise. Rohit held India’s top-tier Grade A+ BCCI central contract (reportedly worth INR 7 crore a year) for several years while he was captain across all three formats. Following his Test and T20I retirements, the BCCI’s revised 2025-26 central contracts list — which also discontinued the A+ tier — placed him in Grade B, reported at roughly INR 3 crore a year, reflecting his reduced format workload rather than a drop in standing. Reported investments include fitness platform FITTR (where he became an equity partner alongside his existing endorsement relationship), edu-fintech company LEO1, supply-chain firm Prozo, ed-tech platform upGrad, gated-community app MyGate, meat-and-seafood delivery service ZappFresh, and robotics-automation company Rapidobotics. He was also an early participant in mobile ad-tech company POKKT. Rohit’s primary residence is a sea-facing four-bedroom apartment spanning roughly 6,000 square feet on a high floor of Ahuja Towers in Worli, Mumbai, purchased in 2015 and now estimated by Indian real-estate outlets to be worth INR 30-40 crore. He and his family previously also held a smaller apartment in Lodha Marquise, Lower Parel, purchased in 2013, which was reported to have been rented out in 2025. His vehicle collection has been reported by Indian media to include a Rolls-Royce Ghost and several premium SUVs and sedans, though exact current holdings, like those of most private individuals, are not independently verifiable.
