Lawrence was born on August 1, 1974, in San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago. He began his professional career in 1994 with Defence Force in his home country before moving to Wrexham in the United Kingdom in 2001. He spent six seasons with Wrexham, making over 200 appearances and becoming a fan favorite for his defensive prowess and leadership on the field.
