In February 2020, Johnston signed for Dutch club Feyenoord on a three-and-a-half-year deal. During his time at Feyenoord, he gained valuable experience playing in the Eredivisie and competing in European competitions. Despite having limited playing time, Johnston continued to develop as a player and caught the attention of several clubs in England.
