In 2014, Heitinga signed with Fulham, before later joining Hertha BSC in the Bundesliga. He spent one season with Hertha before eventually signing with West Ham United in 2015. Unfortunately, Heitinga’s time at West Ham was plagued by injuries, and he ultimately retired from professional soccer in 2016.
