Jenkins began his football career at a young age, playing for local youth teams in Manchester. He joined the youth academy of Manchester United before moving on to play for lower league clubs such as Rochdale and Oldham Athletic. Jenkins eventually caught the eye of scouts from Cardiff City and was signed by the club in 2015.
