During his time with Ferrari, Villeneuve won six Grand Prix races and became a fan favorite for his daring overtaking maneuvers and never-give-up attitude. He famously battled with his teammate, Didier Pironi, in the 1982 San Marino Grand Prix, a rivalry that would tragically end with Villeneuve’s death in a crash during qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix later that year.
