Naismith began his career at Rangers, where he came through the youth academy before signing his first professional contract in 2010. He made a handful of first-team appearances for Rangers before being loaned out to Cowdenbeath and Partick Thistle to gain experience. In 2012, Naismith signed for Accrington Stanley in England, where he enjoyed regular playing time and established himself as a key player for the club.
